“I can’t wait for Christmas” could be my mantra. The best is yet to come.  I love Christmas!  The anticipation of celebrating with family and friends, Christmas day, and now the grandchildren’s excitement thrown in is just amazing!  We might even say that it doesn’t get any better than this! But the anticipation can often fall flat. Things don’t turn out the way we thought they would, and our anticipation can become disappointment. That’s the reality for many at Christmas every year. It ends up not being “the most wonderful time of the year.”

But our disappointments can become a catalyst to continue digging deeper into the reality of Christmas. We can still have great anticipation in celebrating Christmas, but it will take us looking at the Advent in Bethlehem as the beginning of the Ultimate Christmas. The Anticipation. The confident hope that there is an Advent yet to come when we will see Jesus face to face. It will last for eternity. The Bible calls it heaven, the culmination to closing the gap in our relationship with God. When we finally experience the complete transformation of ourselves, being made like Jesus Christ and living eternally in that perfect place – heaven. That’s when we will have the best Christmas ever!  Let that roll around in your thoughts. It will be perfect. It will be without tears, disappointments, and death. It will be a celebration that our best dreams can’t imagine.

That’s a Christmas worth anticipating! Take some time to ponder the wonder of that eternal celebration.

John 14:1-3 (NLT) Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
